Getting Started
Initial Setup
- Download My Family Vault from the App Store
- Open the app and tap "Get Started"
- Set up biometric authentication (Face ID or Touch ID)
- Create your 6-digit Master PIN as backup
- Your vault is now ready to use!
⚠️ Important
Remember your Master PIN! If you forget it and biometrics fail, your data cannot be recovered. We cannot help you recover your data - this is by design for maximum security.
First-Time Backup
After adding your first items, create a backup:
- Go to the Backups tab
- Tap "Backup"
- Save the encrypted file to a secure location

Adding a New Record
- Navigate to the Vault tab
- Tap the + button in the top right
- Select a category from the list
- Fill in the required information
- Add optional documents/photos
- Tap Save
🔒 Security Note
All attached documents are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and stored in the app's private directory. Original files are automatically deleted after encryption.
Backup & Restore
Creating a Backup
- Navigate to the Backups tab
- Tap Backup
- Wait for the encrypted backup to be created
- Share or save the backup file
What's included in a backup:
- • All vault items and their data
- • All attached documents and photos
- • Custom fields and tags
- • Complete encryption protection
Restoring from Backup
- Navigate to the Backups tab
- Tap Restore
- Select your backup file (.vaultbackup)
- Confirm restoration
⚠️ Warning
Restoring a backup will replace all current vault data.
Multi-Currency Support
The Home dashboard shows your financial summary with automatic currency conversion:
- Net worth in your selected base currency
- Assets and liabilities breakdown
- Country-by-country breakdown with local currencies
To change your base currency, tap the currency dropdown on the Home screen and select your preferred currency.
🔒 Privacy Note
Exchange rate updates only fetch public currency data. No personal information is ever sent.
Troubleshooting
Possible causes:
- Biometrics not set up on your device
- Too many failed attempts (progressive delay)
Solutions:
- Ensure Face ID/Touch ID is enabled in device Settings
- Wait for the lockout timer to expire
- Use your Master PIN as backup
- Force close the app
- Restart your device
- Try again
If the problem persists, restore from your most recent backup.
Supported formats: PDF, JPG, PNG, HEIC
Try re-adding the document if it was corrupted during encryption.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. My Family Vault is 100% offline. All data is stored exclusively on your device in an encrypted format. There are no servers, no cloud sync, no accounts.
If you have a backup, you can restore your vault on a new device. Without a backup, your data cannot be recovered. We strongly recommend regular backups.
No. We have no ability to access, view, or recover your data. All encryption keys are stored locally in your device's Secure Enclave/Keychain.
- Data at rest: AES-256-GCM (military-grade)
- Key derivation: PBKDF2 with 100,000 iterations
- Sharing: RSA-4096 + AES hybrid encryption
- Key storage: iOS Keychain (hardware-backed when available)
The app will permanently delete all vault data to protect your information. This cannot be undone. Make sure to keep regular backups.
